Avoid distractions: Limit unnecessary notifications

This article explains the harmful impact of unnecessary notifications on the smartphone consumer. Avoiding Distractions: Limiting Unnecessary Notifications

⚠️ This text is the continuation of the article that I wrote concerning the subject ''Smartphone, ally or enemy'”.
Number of times per day we check our Smartphone

First of all, how many times do you think you consult your Smartphone per day?

10, 20, 50 times?

There is a good chance that it will be much more… 😯

👉 According to a French study. One person consults on average 221 times a day his cell phone?1

221 consultations per day? Impressive !

221 times a day we hear this noise which has become familiar to us.

Between us…

Let's be honest, if our partner checked on us 221 times a day. A long time ago we would have kindly said “bye bye you’re making me so annoying”.

In addition, there is also the time lost with notifications. Note that notifications can bring harmful side effects, such as stress or impatience.

Screen time

How much time do you spend on your smartphone per day?

👉 Average 3 hours and 16 minutes of screen time per day according to a study1.

Which makes an average of 1,186 hours and 15 minutes per year !

And yes … We spend more time on our phones than with most of our loved ones. Therefore, I think we can admit that we are big drug addicts!

What do you do during your 3 hours and a few minutes a day? 😶

In these 221 consultations, the majority of times we consult our mobile phone to look at… notifications that we receive.

I ask you a question… How many unnecessary notifications do you receive per day?

The notifications

👉 In reality, notifications are a very powerful marketing tool to build customer loyalty to a business.

It should be noted that some applications are very correct and only send us a few notifications per year or only important notifications.

➡️ On the other hand, other applications bombard us with commercial notifications with the aim of making us consume their products.

For the user of these applications, these notifications become useless, harmful, cumbersome, consuming and stressful. 👎

👉 Note: This is why companies insist that you add their apps. Instead of paying for media ads, companies can send ads directly to your smartphone for free.
The solution: LESS to do MORE
➡️ When I understood this, I applied the minimalist philosophy “less to do more”😏

👉 To begin with, I deleted all the applications that I rarely or never used! therefore, I only kept the applications that I used at least once a month.

👉 Indeed, just with this method, having consulted my screen time, it has decreased by 1 hour less per day on average.

average of -Useless Notifications

That is to say an average of 365 hours less per year screen time on my smartphone.

👉 Then, in order to have more peace of mind, I muted all notifications that are not essential.

Result

➡️ I observed that I became much less addicted with my cell phone because I had fewer notifications.

In reality, I am less often distracted and I live the present moment more deeply🤓

Which leaves more time for essential aspects.

👉 Now I only open notifications in the late morning and late afternoon. In reality, no more unnecessary notifications that made me want to constantly check my phone during the day.

👉 By spending less time on it, I'm more productive when using my cell phone.

Indeed, I am much less distracted. Like my phone rings less often. My concentration has improved a lot.

Smartphone detox tip – Pro level

And I even reached a milestone regarding my smartphone detox 😀

👉 Today I am applying a method that goes even further. Indeed, I got into the habit of removing my mobile data (4G) when I'm not using my phone.

Nowadays, I do it mechanically. That is, without thinking.

Which causes my phone notifications to only ring when I activate my mobile data (internet).

In short, I decide when I look at my phone. And not like before, my phone no longer decides when I should look at it.

This is proof that I am less dependent on my Smartphone!

In order to improve myself, what did you think of this article regarding unnecessary notifications?

About me

Compared to before, I was a person who consumed a lot until the day I realized that my consumption made me sadder and poorer 😑

Now I prefer the minimum of my needs to be happy and achieve my financial freedom.

Without realizingI started to focus on saving and investing to depend on a boss for as little time as possible and to speed up my personal projects.

For several years I have felt happy and I have become richer in a way that I would never have imagined given that I have an average salary in Switzerland.

It is for this purpose that I decided to create this blog. In order to share and learn with other people who seek freedom and simplicity 😉

Are you rather minimalist or frugal Jonny?

I am as minimalist as I am frugalist. However, there are situations where I lean more towards an art of life.

To conclude, I think the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your lifestyle 😊
