Why focus?

According to a health magazine1We, human beings. We have the possibility of having optimal concentration for 90 minutes, so 25 minutes if we do the same activity.
However, according to a Microsoft study2, the average human concentration time is… be careful because it’s shocking… 8 short seconds 😓.

We know why we need to focus. Broadly speaking, for 3 reasons:
- Complete a task as quickly as possible
- To carry out a task as efficiently as possible
- Focus on the essentials
Optimal concentration, what English speakers call the “deep work” (deep work) is necessary to do the 3 aspects mentioned as well as possible.
By the way, if you are looking for a good book on this topic. I advise you to read the book ”deep work by Cal Newport” 😉
Optimal concentration

👉 There have been times when I have been frustrated by moments when I wish I had optimal concentration. For example:
- When I write my blog posts – When writing, I have to put myself in the position between the person who writes and the person who reads the article. Therefore, if I am not focused, the article will not have the desired result.
- When I am with my loved ones – I really like sharing moments with my loved ones. As these moments are always short. I prefer to be in optimal concentration with them.
- At work – To work efficiently, I have to be focused.
Previously, I noticed that I wasn't focused on those moments that I found important. As a result, I began to analyze the problems. 🧐
👉 Finally, according to my example, I understood that optimal concentration mainly depends on 5 aspects.
- Use your smartphone intelligently
- Quietness of the room
- A room as empty as possible
- Sleep time
- Balanced diet
Use your smartphone intelligently
⚠️ One of the main enemies of concentration is the smartphone. 😵

I have written several articles on my tab ”digital minimalism” in the page minimalist.
As I have already written. I love the usefulness of a smartphone. But if we use it badly, it is a real hindrance in our life!
For example, when I wanted a moment of optimal concentration with my girlfriend, our smartphones distract us very easily 😵
🔺 In a moment of concentration. The ringtones of our smartphones automatically bring bad moments ⚠️
For example, each ”beep” of our smartphone brings us a moment of questioning 😕
Is it work? Is it the new order that arrives? A response from a social network?
As a result, we went to see what this beep was? 🤔
Once we realized it was just an advertising newsletter, we were going to see a notification from a social network. Once we saw the notification, there was a video about a funny cat.
And so on for several minutes 😶👎
➡️ As a result, the time my girlfriend and I spend on our smartphones watching trivial things is automatically detrimental to our couple's concentration. ⚠️
The worst part is that when one of us looks at his smartphone, the other's reflex is... to look at his too. 😑
And there we were, each going our separate ways to watch trivial things instead of having a good time together.

👉 There is a solution to this problem. And this solution takes less than… a second. ⏱
➡️ Just put the smartphone on airplane mode
✈

Indeed, since we put our smartphones in airplane mode when the smartphone disturbs us. Our conversations are deeper and more interesting.
So we talk about our days, the quality of the meal, the goals we want to achieve, the weekend planning, the preparation of our future vacations.

Thanks to this trick, it really became a couple's moment. ❕❗
Whereas before, it was more of a moment "Smartphone with a voiceover in the background talking” 😐
➡️ It is important to emphasize that this moment of concentration brings us positive results later! For example:
- When discussing our holiday desires, we automatically find a region to visit.
- By focusing on the quality of meals, we choose the right products and take care of our health.
- Sharing our goals allows others to give their opinion and listen to an outside opinion.
I repeat, all we do is simply click on our smartphones to put it in airplane mode ✈ (or in silent mode), when our smartphone becomes invasive.
Quietness of the room

➡️ The second important aspect regarding optimal concentration is the quietness of the room 😎
When I work and I need to concentrate. I always look for 4 conditions:
- Being alone in the room
- Smartphone in airplane mode
- A room as empty as possible
- A room as quiet as possible
note that I love my cats, my girlfriend or my work colleagues for example. On the other hand, I know that they are a hindrance when I have to concentrate on a task in order to have an optimal result.

In fact, the fewer distractions there are, the more focused and productive I am. 😉
👉 Therefore, I seriously believe that a quiet room is as important as a good working tool 👍
For example, most of the posts on this blog are written early in the morning or late at night. At times when my neighbors, my cats, and my girlfriend are fast asleep.
This calm and solitude bring me optimal concentration. 🤩
Thus eliminating any noise nuisance that interrupts my deep concentration.
A room as empty as possible
An empty room means no distractions.

Although I love technology, I know that it should not be overused.
These days we have fantastic productivity tools.
👉 However, I think that The most productive objects are the simplest ones 👍
For example, on my desk there is only my computer, a lamp and a pen.
Indeed, I think more objects would only bring unnecessary distraction. Therefore, I prefer to simply eliminate them ❌
To give an example, two of the greatest composers of all time, Mozart and Beethoven, who were born in the 18th century.
Let's note that they achieved musical feats, still known today. Without any technological aid. Just a piano, a pencil and a sheet of paper.
👉 In my opinion, this is proof that it is more important to prioritize the quality of the material than the quantity of material available 😉
Sleep time
Often overlooked, sleep time is a very important aspect to consider for optimal concentration. 🔍
In my opinion, it is simply impossible to be focused without proper sleep.
According to a study1, Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night to be in good shape!
Additionally, it's important to get regular sleep. Studies show that varying your sleep hours or the number of hours you sleep increases your risk of cardiovascular disease.
Balanced diet
Don't neglect your diet to stay focused!
In fact, according to AI, alcohol or coffee do not help concentration.
👉 However, a balanced and regular diet, mainly based on fruits, vegetables, water and oily fish, promotes concentration😉
Conclusion
Here is a summary of this article. Optimal Concentration: Goodbye distractions and Hello deep work
In order to have optimal concentration, you must:
- Use your smartphone intelligently
- Being in a calm and harmonious room
- Be in the emptiest room possible
- Get enough sleep regularly

Optimal concentration is a tip that will greatly boost your quality of work, the quality of your conversations and will help you achieve your goals more quickly. 😀
Note that once you get used to optimal concentration, it doesn't take much longer.
👉 On the contrary, Optimal focus mode will save you time to achieve what you want 😎.
In conclusion, if you practice optimal concentration regularly, there is a good chance that you will develop deeper friendships and work more efficiently (possibly with salary increases or an increase in the number of clients as a result 😉).
Because nowadays, It is a minority of people who apply this very important mode of concentration.

How does this blog live?
Overall, this blog lives from sharing a frugal and/or minimalist lifestyle.
For the sake of transparency towards readers, all the products recommended are intended to make life cheaper and simpler.
Essentially, my only income from this blog comes from the training courses I conduct, promo codes for products I use, and donations readers make in exchange for neutral information.
About me
Faced with not very effective financial education, as was my case before. I actually decided to create this blog following a change in my life since my early adult life.
Compared to before, I was a person who consumed a lot until the day I understood that my consumption was making me sadder and poorer. From now on, I prioritize the minimum of my needs to be happy and achieve financial freedom.
Without realizing it, I also began to prioritize savings and investments to depend on a boss for as short a time as possible and to accelerate my personal projects.
For several years I have felt happy and I have become richer in a way that I would never have imagined given that I have an average salary in Switzerland.
It is for this purpose that I decided to create this blog. To share, learn and teach with others who seek freedom, simplicity and long-term wealth.
Are you rather minimalist or frugal Jonny?
I am both a minimalist and a frugalist. However, there are situations where I lean more towards an art of living.
To conclude, I think the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your life and I have found a balance between these lifestyles without reaching the extremes.
