Are Minimalists Lazy?

To begin with, what is a lazy person? According to the Larousse dictionary. A lazy person is a person who does nothing, who does not want to work.1.

Broadly speaking, lazy people favor laziness. While minimalists favor the essential.

Unfortunately, not all people are open-minded. Therefore, when people don't like something, they are closed-minded. They tend to criticize in order to convince others that they are right.

Indeed, it is easier to criticize a way of life that we know nothing about, than to make the effort to read and learn about this way of life.

Yes, surely.

However, we must not confuse everything.

According to artificial intelligence, there are at least 100 million minimalists in the world. With such a large number, there must be a minority who are lazy. I'm not going to deny that.

  • People (of a nationality) are morons.

If I say this, I am not telling a lie.

Indeed, out of millions of people, saying that there are morons is surely true. But in reality, talking about the 0.1% of the population to assert my personal negative opinion on an entire population. That is, in my opinion, being intellectually dishonest.

According to some people, always doing the maximum possible and being the best in everything is the only solution to live better and work well.

If these people are happy to live this way. Why not?

Although there are people who have a hard time understanding how doing less can be more. There are some obvious examples!

Almost everyone who criticizes minimalism owns a smartphone.

The most paradoxical thing is that the inventor of the Smartphone (the Smartphone as we know it today), Steve Jobs, was a minimalist!

By the way, why do you think smartphones have so few buttons? It's simple, Steve Jobs hated buttons and computer mice.

In reality, he wanted Apple products to be as simple as possible and with as few buttons as possible. That is, minimalist products.

It started with the iPod in 2001, which was the first computer invention with a single button. Note that it was unthinkable at the time that a computer device could be effective with a single button.

Then in 2007 he revolutionized cell phones with the famous Smartphone. He announced the smartphone as “an iPod, a telephone and a mobile terminal capable of connecting to the Internet” with just one screen and one button.

Nowadays, who would like a cell phone with a ton of physical buttons?

Who hasn't dreamed of one day traveling around the world?

Globetrotters are people who prefer to travel with only the essentials with them.

In fact, instead of having a large suitcase with a lot of equipment behind them, these minimalists prefer to travel light.

More and more people are getting into this minimalist way of traveling. Even businesswomen1 !

Similar to globetrotting, van life is a way of traveling (or living) with only the essentials.

The difference is that “van-lifers” have a “tiny house” which is their converted utility vehicle or camper van to get around in.

In reality, they take advantage of most of their vehicle to travel or live wherever they want. Therefore, in a minimalist way.

More and more people are opting for part-time work. In fact, it can be said that working less means living closer to what is essential. For example:

  • Less time at work = More time for a passion
  • Less time with your boss = More time with the kids

Again, this minimalist attitude can have many benefits. In reality, working full-time does not necessarily mean working better or living better!

Just because minimalists focus on the essentials doesn't mean they're lazy.

In reality, focusing on the essentials allows you to be more productive, more focused and waste less time on secondary matters!

Therefore, if a person claims that minimalists are lazy, then advise him to read books or blogs about minimalism.

About me

Compared to before, I was a person who consumed a lot until the day I realized that my consumption made me sadder and poorer 😑

Now I prefer the minimum of my needs to be happy and achieve my financial freedom.

Without realizingI started to focus on saving and investing to depend on a boss for as little time as possible and to speed up my personal projects.

For several years I have felt happy and I have become richer in a way that I would never have imagined given that I have an average salary in Switzerland.

It is for this purpose that I decided to create this blog. In order to share and learn with other people who seek freedom and simplicity 😉

Are you rather minimalist or frugal Jonny?

I am as minimalist as I am frugalist. However, there are situations where I lean more towards an art of life.

To conclude, I think the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your lifestyle 😊
