How to organize your home in 30 minutes?

In this article, how to organize your home in 30 minutes? In fact, we're going to delve deeper into minimalism and tidying up 😉

  • Add a contact card you just received
  • Bring the plastic from the biscuit you just bought
  • Bring the advertising flyer that you receive in your mailbox
  • Buy and bring a new household appliance into your home, without throwing away the old, outdated one

According to the newspaper article1, each dwelling weighs an average of 2.5 tonnes

Regarding the 21 families who participated in the study to get rid of their unwanted items and combat waste, the study concluded that on average, Participants got rid of 31% of their possessions in their homes.

In addition, This decluttering has allowed families to gain between 30 and 60 % of space in their homes, depending on the household.

  • Taking up space unnecessarily
  • Difficulty in storage
  • Accumulate a significant amount of dust
  • Disrupt traffic
  • Increase dangers for children
  1. The clutter
  2. Home organization

We will give ourselves 30 minutes to complete this exercise. 😉

It should be noted that the goal is not to have a perfect house with the 2 steps written!

🔍 In reality, a perfectly tidy and organized house takes weeks to achieve! Not to mention, the larger the accommodation, the more time it will take to organize.

  • Improve circulation in the home
  • Reduce search time
  • Save space
  • Reduce stress
  • Reduce cleaning time
  • Make cleaning easier

In my opinion, in the spice cupboard, you should not keep more than 7 different spices (e.g. salt, sugar, curry, turmeric, etc.). In fact, there's very little chance you'll use more than 7 spices.

We tend to accumulate too many kitchen utensils. Sometimes double or triple. For example, turner, spatulas, garlic cutter, soup ladle, etc.

Therefore, eliminating these excess utensils will save space in the kitchen. In my opinion, you should keep a maximum of 10 utensils.

In my opinion, each category of tableware, for example, dinner plates, soup plates, knives, forks, glasses, coffee cups, etc., should be at maximum double the number of residents in the accommodation.

For classic use for cooking. I think that 3 pots (of different sizes) and 2 frying pans are enough, for the majority of dishes to be cooked.

As for hygiene products in the bathroom, only the strict minimum.

In my case, for example, it's shampoo, soap, deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Regarding makeup products, in my opinion, it's necessary dispose of products that have not been used in the last 6 months.

In fact, in my opinion, if you can survive 6 months without an object, that means the object is not essential.

In the bathroom, it is very easy to accumulate double machines.

For example, 2 razors, 2 hair straighteners, etc.

In reality, you just have to keep 1 machine per use.

The wardrobe in the bedroom is, in my opinion, the first place to understand the minimalist spirit.

In the wardrobe, you should not hesitate to remove any unnecessary or rarely used clothing.

Note: If you want to do a big tidy-up and take some time, in that case, I wrote an article on this topic. How to create minimalist storage in the wardrobe

On our desk, we can quickly accumulate useless and superfluous objects. As a result, you should not hesitate to remove any excess items from the desk.

To give you an example, on my desk there is only my computer, a multi-colored pen and scissors.

It's very easy to overdecorate. For example, by adding multiple paintings, displaying multiple photos, or adding too many figurines.

In reality, all these decorations we put up have meaning at the time of purchase. But a few months later, accumulated in the bedroom (or another room in the house), the decorations quickly become a source of suffocation in the room.

therefore, Removing any decorations that you find unimportant is a step towards an airy and less dusty storage area !

Again, as in the bedroom, Overfilling the living room with decorations is not practical or pleasant to use.

We liked to keep souvenirs on a shelf or in a drawer, to remember the good old days.

And why not keep some of them?

However, you should not hesitate to eliminate souvenirs that provide very limited satisfaction.

Besides, sometimes we keep souvenirs, but we no longer remember where they came from.

Note that this step is much freer and more creative compared to decluttering. In this article, I will provide key points. But each reader will organize their own way 😉

  • Food stock
  • Cooking and cooking objects
  • Dishes
  • Trash & waste
  • Cleaning products & cleaning equipment

Indeed, sorting storage categories is essential in order to organize the kitchen (and the house too).

Note🔺 If the kitchen is too small for storage, some supplies can be placed elsewhere. For example, cleaning supplies can be placed in the laundry room.

  • The shelf behind the pharmacy
  • Cabinet under the sink

In reality, we tend to overfill our bathrooms with products that are of little use. This significantly reduces the bathroom's usable space and promotes dust and dirt.

In reality, the fewer storage units there are, the fewer temptations we have to fill them.

The bathtub isn't a catch-all. In fact, it's very easy to accumulate shampoos or beauty products in the corner of the bathtub (or shower).

In my case, in the corner of my bathtub, I only leave shampoo.

Once you've decluttered your bathroom, it'll be easy to organize your products with the limited storage space.

  • Drugs
  • Dental hygiene products
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Makeup Essentials for Women
  • Razor for men

In reality, free space is essential in order to move around easily and make the room more accessible.

Why? Because, as a general rule, the top of the bed is a very dusty area. Since we sleep right on top of it, it's not good to breathe dust all night.

The living room is generally the place in the house where we spend the least time. In fact, many minimalists don't have a living room, and they're not unhappy about it.

  • Folded table = More space for exercising in the living room and easier to vacuum the living room when cleaning
  • Table unfolded = 1 additional table when there are more than 3 of us eating in the house (meals with friends for example)

If in your accommodation you have a laundry room or you have a dedicated cupboard for non-food storage.

For example, in my storage cabinet, I only have one spare sponge.

In fact, I think having several spare sponges in my cupboard is too bulky, given that my sponge lasts several months for my use.

So why keep several sponges that will clutter up my cupboard? If I can buy a sponge if needed, very cheaply, at the supermarket 150 meters from my house.

We humans tend to hoard things. In reality, every item we bring into our homes means extra work, which isn't pleasant!

  • Declutter the house
  • Organize the house according to the reader's tastes
  • Do not add new unnecessary objects

Rather than seeing decluttering and minimalism as a painful task, on the contrary, it should not be seen as a challenge to be achieved!

  • Save time when searching
  • Reduce cleaning time
  • Better inventory management
  • Breathe less dusty air in your home

In addition, the interior of the accommodation will be easier to live in, more zen and more accessible 😉

About me

Compared to before, I was a person who consumed a lot until the day I realized that my consumption made me sadder and poorer 😑

Now I prefer the minimum of my needs to be happy and achieve my financial freedom.

Without realizingI started to focus on saving and investing to depend on a boss for as little time as possible and to speed up my personal projects.

For several years I have felt happy and I have become richer in a way that I would never have imagined given that I have an average salary in Switzerland.

It is for this purpose that I decided to create this blog. In order to share and learn with other people who seek freedom and simplicity 😉

Are you rather minimalist or frugal Jonny?

I am as minimalist as I am frugalist. However, there are situations where I lean more towards an art of life.

To conclude, I think the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your lifestyle 😊
