Access to information
Nowadays. We have very easy access to information!
The problem with ease is that there is often too much of it!
Indeed, when there is abundance, it is our responsibility to sort so as not to be overwhelmed with information. Otherwise, the abundance becomes excessive and harmful to us!
▶ In minimalism, the first aspect to achieve is theelimination. In order to optimize the information overload. It is necessary to remove what is not essential!
Means to receive information
Without computer tools, we were already collecting a lot of information every day. For example:
- In the streets (advertisements)
- At work (professional information)
- In a shopping (advertisements)

In addition, nowadays we have computer tools that overload us with even more information. For example:
- Smartphone
- Television
Smartphone
In case of unlimited use, the Smartphone plays a very harmful role in information overload. For example:
- Social networks (scroll for hours)
- Email (receive emails every 5 minutes)
- Advertisements (with a search app)
- Group messaging (like a whatapp group with dozens of people)
In this blog, I will write several articles about optimizing the use of a Smartphone. In fact, I think that a good use of the Smartphone is essential for a minimalist.
Information overload
➡ We are bombarded with information💥.
Moreover, in the majority of cases, the information we receive is simply useless. For example:
- A meaningless post from a social network
- Useless information read in a document at work
- Useless advertising seen from the search app
👉 In reality, every piece of information (even the most trivial) asks our brain, additional storage of information. Thus creating a huge storage of little-useful information.

In Fumio Sasaki's book "the main thing is nothing else1". He describes the amount of information as follows:
The amount of information received today (in one day) would be the equivalent of that of man from the Edo period (1600s-1800s in Japan) in one year.
Fumio Sakaki
➡ Which means we have 365 times more information compared to the 1800s 😦
365 times 😬
👉 Obviously, so much information is not beneficial for our mental health!
Are we smarter with more information?
Furthermore, it is interesting to note that for Sasaki, even with 365 times more information than 300 years ago, Our brain always retains the same amount of information 😬.
➡ In reality, we are not more intelligent because we have more information. On the contrary, it is more difficult to sort them.
Therefore, too much information does not bring us any positive effects!
The consequences of information overload?
An obvious consequence of being overloaded with information is the development of psychological problems, for example:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Difficulty concentrating
- Lack of productivity

Note that these symptoms influence our private and professional life!
Therefore, if these symptoms are not treated or managed, they can lead to illnesses, such as depression for example 😐
Conclusion
Actually, the goal of this article is to make us realize that we have too much information. Mainly with our Smartphone!
And with my other articles, we will analyze methods to understand how to eliminate Information overload?
👉 The less information and screen time we have. The more we will enjoy life!
Again, I use the minimalist philosophy “less for more” ☺

About me
I decided to create this blog to develop and help readers who are looking for a simpler and more economical life.
Compared to before, I was a person who consumed a lot until the day I realized that my consumption made me sadder and poorer 😑
Now I prefer the minimum of my needs to be happy and achieve my financial freedom.
Without realizingI started to focus on saving and investing to depend on a boss for as little time as possible and to speed up my personal projects.
For several years I have felt happy and I have become richer in a way that I would never have imagined given that I have an average salary in Switzerland.
It is for this purpose that I decided to create this blog. In order to share and learn with other people who seek freedom and simplicity 😉
Are you rather minimalist or frugal Jonny?
I am as minimalist as I am frugalist. However, there are situations where I lean more towards an art of life.
To conclude, I think the most important thing is to feel comfortable in your lifestyle 😊
