Elimination! Why?
When the question is to do a material tidying up, an awareness, an organization, a sorting or a project. We always start with a step.
▶ Eliminate what is not necessary ⚠

The question is to understand why we almost always have to go through this stage to achieve our objectives in the long term?
Why is it so important to eliminate? 🧐

According to an Ipsos study analyzed by Europe11, each inhabitant owns on average… Hold on tight! Approximately 200 kilos of useless objects at their place. 😧
According to another French study2, 65% respondents say lack time to do what they really want to do during the day.
🔍 In reality, the more time we spend on things that don't make us happy, automatically, the less time we have for things that do make us happy.
👉 Note that elimination will help to avoid this waste in our lives, which automatically makes life easier. 😉
🔍Therefore, here are the reasons why it is essential to eliminate what is not necessary:
Time wasted on secondary tasks ⏱
👉 If you don't remove the excess. Non-essential items or goals will add administrative or housework to you.. In conclusion, you are adding something unwanted!
🔍 Which means you will increase time with unwanted side tasks 😕
Everything you spend with what is not essential. You reduce your time and energy to devote to what is truly essential.
7 reasons to understand why it is essential
Understand what is essential ✔
👉 If you don't eliminate what you have excess of. You will have more difficulty understanding what is essential to you.
For example, if you have a closet full of clothes. The more non-essential clothes you have, the less you will notice the essential clothes!
In reality, it's usually when you only have the essentials that you realize what you don't need.
Lightness 😀
👉 When you eliminate objects, you feel lighter.
For example, the more you reduce, the less there is:
- Reduced weight to carry
- Housework to do
- From the administrative side
👉 Indeed, all this brings you calm, good humor and lightness. 😊
Best decisions 👌
👉 Surrounding yourself with only the essentials automatically means making better decisions.
For example, if you have 10 tasks to do in a certain order, it can quickly become overwhelming. It is difficult to decide on all 10 tasks at the same time. On the other hand, if you remove the 7 less important tasks, choosing the 3 main tasks becomes easier, because you have more clarity to think and plan effectively.
Money saved 💲💲
👉 If we only buy what is essential, we don't spend money on what is non-essential. Automatically, this will save a lot of money!
For example, the first time I cleaned my room. I put on my desk all the items that I had bought and used less than 3 times in a few years. In total, I realized that the whole thing represented about 1,000 CHF in purchase price. 😐
In reality, this means that I spent 1,000 CHF on items that now have no value and gave me no satisfaction except at the time of purchase. 😑
Better health 😁
According to Marie Kondo's book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” decluttering the interior of your home allows you to be healthier.
This does not surprise me!
In fact, fewer objects automatically means:
- Less electronic waves at home
- Less dust to breathe
- A more Zen living space
Fewer Negative Messages 🔞
👉 Every useless object accumulated in your home indirectly sends you negative messages ❗
For example:
- Dust on your computer screen will remind you that you don't clean often.
- The pile of pens on your desk and the mess in your room will remind you that you are disorganized.
- High screen time on your smartphone will remind you that you spend a lot of time on your phone for niceties.
- The lamp you never use will remind you that you spent 30 CHF for nothing.
👉 Indeed, accumulation sends you negative messages which promote negative feelings. For example, lack of self-confidence or depression 😐
therefore, elimination helps reduce the number of negative thoughts!
Summary of the benefits of eliminating
Brings better understanding
Less housework to do
Less administration to do
Helps make better decisions
Brings calm and zenitude
Saves money
Helps you be healthier
Transmits fewer negative messages to the unconscious
Promotes sustainable recycling and reduces unnecessary material possessions

Do you understand better why eliminating is so important?
Eliminate, the basis of minimalism!
▶ Keeping only the essentials is, in my opinion, the basis of minimalism. 😉
Indeed, it is very difficult to follow the minimalist movement if we do not eliminate the excess!
Therefore, adopting a minimalist lifestyle automatically means leading a less messy life and lightening the mind 😉

How quickly can you become a minimalist?
This step may be more or less easy to achieve depending on the level of consumerism of each person. In reality, this question will depend on certain aspects, such as:
- The fear of throwing away
- The level of overconsumption of each person
- The ability to decide
But don't panic. Everyone can do it ❗❕
In reality, you just have to find a minimalist balance that suits each person. And also do a lot of questioning to learn from your mistakes 😉
➡ The more we apply minimalism in our daily lives, the faster we become minimalist.
Jo, do you have any minimalist tips to offer?

I believe that every minimalist should follow his or her own path.
However, I have methods that have worked for me. There's nothing stopping you from trying them out to see if they work for you. 😊
- Traveling backpack
The perfect example of lightness, practicality and accessibility. I'm going to dedicate an article to this subject!
The advantage is that you can take your time to find what suits you in your backpack. By adding or removing items as you go. 😉
- Storage in your wardrobe
I wrote an article on this subject, how to make minimalist storage in your closet.
If you read this article, you will understand how to organize your closet and you will also understand the principle of how to organize your material goods.
- The Fake Move
This method is not very radical, but some people love it!
The principle is simple! You put all the items you own in a box and let 15 days pass.
In the meantime, The items you had to take out of boxes out of necessity during this time mean they are essential. On the other hand, the objects that remained in the box, you throw them away or give them to someone.
The goal is to stick with only essential items!
- 1 item deleted per day
The principle is the same as the fake move.
The difference is that instead of putting all the items in a box or in the trash at once, This method only eliminates a few items each day. However, the number of items to throw away per day depends on each person's desire.
Conclusion
Regular elimination is essential to become a minimalist.

It is worth noting that it is no coincidence that books such as Marie Kondo's 'The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up' or Sasaki's 'The Essentials and Nothing Else', devote a good part of their books to elimination.
➡ Without eliminating the surplus, you will tend to accumulate.
👉 The more you accumulate, the more you will have frustrations with your objects which will mostly become useless and cumbersome.
Note that if you waste energy on unimportant or useless things. It takes time and energy that could be used for things really important.
Note that focusing on the essential is the only way to understand your real needs.
